Dartmoor Farmers win Taste of the West award
Beef from Dartmoor Farmers won both Champion Product and the Carol Trewin South West Producer of the Year awards at the Taste of the West awards, presented at the Eden Project this week.
Dartmoor Farmers beef won the Champion Product award from a field of more than 1000 entries for their Sirloin of Beef Roasting Joint of which Judge Rick Stein said, “This product is exactly what West Country food should be all about. Outstanding flavour, beautifully well hung and clearly great expertise has gone into producing such a wonderful piece of meat.”
Dartmoor Farmers are a collection of some 50 small farms, who have worked on Dartmoor for many generations. The meat's quality comes from the traditional breeds used and the hill grazing, with the animals living outdoors on the moor eating a grass and mixed herbage diet. They grow slowly and consequently have a tremendous flavour.
